Singing is an integral part of any human being. It is a form of self expression and creates feelings of joy and happiness. Singing is sustained speech and therefore requires certain techniques. I teach all levels and ages – whether you are an absolute beginner, casual singer or serious performer. A needs analysis will be done on the first appointment where I will, together with the client, assess the vocal needs. According to this assessment, I will compile a systematic training schedule to address these needs.

Free Assessment
 A 20 – 30 min session where I will listen to the voice and discuss your needs. I will introduce you to my methods, after which the client can decide if he/she would like to embark on this journey with me.

Al lessons are one on one and will consist of the following:

• Warm-up, during which I can assess the status of the voice
• Correcting and working on problem areas
• Various exercises building stamina, agility, ear training, etc
• Applications to song
  

The specific areas I will be addressing are:

• orientation towards the instrument ( physics/ anatomy/ workings of vocal folds.etc)
• breathing
• developing diaphragmatic control and support
• diminishing and erasing laryngeal tension
• optimal usage of pharyngeal resonators by eliminating interference caused by unwanted tension, thereby,
• increasing resonance
• developing a strong "mix" (blend between chest and head)
• increasing range
• developing tone and power
• building stamina
• working with words, placement of vowels and consonants
• vocal health and maintenance
• repertoire
• music industry

Duration of Lessons
Lesson times are divided into 30 min and 60 min sessions.
30 min: for the beginner or young singer
60 min: intermediate to advance singer

Formalities

• All package fees to be paid in full upfront before or on the 3rd day of the month
• First time students fees payable on or before first lesson
• In the case of a student not being able to attend the lesson, I have to be notified at least 24 hours in advance. That hour will be worked in at my discretion and availability. Please note that, lessons cancelled by the student, will NOT be credited, but worked in. Should the student not be available for a full or half month, due to holiday or work reasons, those lesson times will be credited, if I am notified well in advance.
• I do my utmost to work in any missed lesson as soon as possible. These lessons have to be worked in within 6 weeks from the date of the missed lesson, otherwise the lesson will be forfeited. Should the student cancel an agreed upon work in lesson, that lesson will be forfeited. Please note that if you had to terminate lessons already paid for, because of work or financial reasons – those lessons will have to be worked in within a six week period from termination.
• In the case of a student not pitching without notice, or lesson cancelled on short notice, the lesson time will be forfeited.
• In the case of myself canceling a lesson, that time will be rescheduled or the student credited for that lesson.
• I reserve the right to juggle timeslots and days to accommodate for any unforeseen events.
• A month’s notice should be given in the case of terminating the lessons.
• Students will receive reading material and cd’s with exercises for home practice.
• Accompaniment
  Please note that I am not a pianist. Should a student require an accompanist, it can be arranged.
• Backtracks
  I have access to a large selection of English Language Backing Tracks. These are fair karaoke tracks which are more than suitable enough for practicing purposes. Afrikaans tracks are also available, but I will refer the student directly to the suppliers. Tailor made tracks can also be arranged.

Lessons are calculated at R250 per hour lesson with a minimum attendance of two hours per month.

The minimum of 2 hours can also be made up by 4 x 30 min sessions, depending on the student's needs and level of experience.

Most people want to work towards something and although the process of learning to sing is very individual, goals are important to keep the motivation going. Students may choose to partake in the following

• Two shows held annually where the student will get the opportunity to perform in front of an audience

• Referrals to other tutors, should the student be interested. E.g.: Piano, Guitar Lessons, Music Theory, Performance Coaching, Stylistic Coaching, Songwriting
